Cheers from Christopher Rudeck

The Bergische HC celebrated an important victory over TSV Hannover-Burgdorf in the relegation battle of the Handball Bundesliga.

After three league games without a win, the BHC prevailed on Saturday evening with 30:29 (13:14) and consolidated 15th place in the table. The lead over the first relegation place is again three points after competitors Minden (17th) and Leipzig (18th) presented and HSG Wetzlar (16th) was also successful against Kiel on Saturday. The best thrower of the game was Sören Steinhaus (BHC) with ten hits.

BHC is fading after a good start

After the defeat in the basement duel at HSG Wetzlar, the BHC started the game well and quickly led 2-0 through Fynn Hangstein (1st minute) and Sören Steinhaus (3rd). Noah Beyer (7th) gave the hosts a three-goal lead (5:2). The Bergische HC looked fresher than the guests, who had only completed their exhausting quarter-final first leg in the European League at SG Flensburg-Handewitt (39:39) on Wednesday.

The Bergische continued to challenge the TSV defense, Johannes Wasielewski (12th) scored with a Kempa trick to make it 6:3. In addition, Christopher Rudeck was in a good mood in the BHC goal and saved his second seven-meter penalty against August Pedersen (14th). The BHC then missed a few clear throws so that Hannover’s Pedersen (18th) was able to reduce the score to 7:6 from the seven-meter line, but Sören Steinhaus and Julian Fuchs (19th) restored the three-goal gap (9:6).

The Bergische continued to play their way into promising throwing positions, but increasingly failed to take advantage of them. At the same time, they lost some of their grip on defense. Hannover were more accurate: Lukas Stutzke (26th) equalized to 11:11, Vilhelm Poulsen (28th) gave TSV their first lead of the game (11:12). The BHC went into the half-time break with a 13:14 deficit.

BHC takes leadership and maintains it

In the second half, Noah Beyer (34th) equalized with a penalty throw before Rudeck brought his team back into possession of the ball with a brilliant save against Vilhelm Poulsen. Shortly afterwards, Beyer (35th) went for the seven-meter penalty again, overcame Hannover’s goalkeeper Joel Birlehm with a throw through the legs and put the BHC back in the lead (16:15).

The two teams fought a duel at eye level in which the Bergische were able to maintain their lead. Beyer (50th) started the final phase with the goal to make it 24:22, and after a technical error by Hannover, Wasielewski (54th) increased the score to 26:23. After a time out, TSV wanted to attack again, but lost the ball and Fuchs (55th) completed the BHC counterattack with the goal to make it 27:23.

Thomas Alfred Solstad (58th) brought the guests back within one goal, on the other side Beyer (59th) kept his nerve from the seven-meter penalty and scored to make it 29:27. Pedersen made things exciting again (29:28), and the BHC took a time-out when they were outnumbered 38 seconds before the end of the game. Beyer then got the ball on the left wing and sank the ball into the corner (30:28). Hannover was able to hit back again through Jonathan Edvardsson – and got a free throw due to the BHC running out of time. Hannes Feise took the last throw and missed the goal with a touchdown.

Now cellar duel in Minden
