Despite a strong performance in the last main round game against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, Düsseldorfer eG rose from the DEL from the DEL.

Düsseldorf won 3: 0 (1: 0, 2: 0, 0: 0) with 3: 0 (1: 0, 2: 0) on Friday evening. But due to the simultaneous 3: 2 (1: 0, 2: 1, 0: 1) success of the Augsburg Panther at the Iserlohn Roosters, DEG is in the last place and will very likely have to start the bitter walk into second class.

There remains a minimal glimmer of hope: If a team won the play-off round in the DEL 2, which did not register for the upper house, DEL-Square would remain at DEG.

However, with Kassel, Krefeld, Dresden, Rosenheim and Landshut, five out of eight playoff teams in the DEL 2 have applied for the license. Since the quintet goes into the final round, the chance for DEG is low.

Victory for both teams mandatory

The situation was clear before the game. The DEG had to win, but at the same time also hope for shooting the Iserlohn Roosters who competed against the competitor Augsburg Panther.

Düsseldorf’s opponent Wolfsburg, however, traveled to the Rhineland as a tenth and also had a win in order not to fall out of the places for the pre-playoffs.

But for DEG this game was about everything or nothing. Starting with the player contracts, from which no one applies to the lower house, to possibly turning sponsors – the existence of the club was threatened by the impending descent.

Düsseldorf’s Drake Rymsha (R) cheers over his early lead goal.

Rymsha meets after 27 seconds

The players were obviously aware of the importance of the game. It only took 27 seconds when the arena head stood. Drake Rymsha pulled on and away and achieved the early lead for the Rhinelander. But then the first damper: Augsburg also went to the front early through Chris Collins in Iserlohn. After five minutes, the DEG had to survive the first Wolfsburg power play (Sinan Akdag because of hooks), which was achieved.

Haukeland clarifies against Dumont

However, the Lower Saxony got into the game better after the sleepy initial phase and had twice as much puck ownership at the end of the first third than the home side. But it was mandatory in front of the goal of DEG goalie.

Haukeland was ready in the 13th minute when he parried against the free -standing Lucas Dumont. And on the other hand, Dustin Strahlmeier clarified against Luis üffing after a cross pass from Bennet Roßmy.

Dissatisfied faces on both sides

Overall, Düsseldorf was more nervous and made too many mistakes: rarely managed to generate dangerous attacks. Wolfsburg – With the knowledge in the back that Frankfurt led early and high in Nuremberg and passed the grizzlys to tenth place – increased the pressure more and more.

Nevertheless, it remained 1-0 in the first third, there were dissatisfied faces on both sides. The DEG would have relegated through the Augsburg leadership, and Wolfsburg would also have flown out of the pre-playoff places.

Meet Roosters – and the DEG increases

The grizzlys in the second section had turned the spit over a hair and also hit early, but Paul Postma was just able to crucial the pussy Julian Chabrot.

But then the Düsseldorf Hall lifted twice within a short time. First, the happy customer penetrated through the arena that Iserlohn had equalized by Shane Gersich. And shortly afterwards again: Shortly after a DEG power play, Rymsha took advantage of a chance and laced a double pack to 2-0. Stand now Düsseldorf was saved.

Richards to 3-0, but Augsburg also leads again

After individual mistakes, the DEG continued to lose the disc, but too often the grizzlys, which are angry, made too little out of the resulting possibilities.

Instead, Düsseldorf scored 3-0 when Justin Richards pushed in free-standing after a fine preparatory work by Rick Schofield behind the grizzly goal (38.). But almost simultaneously Augsburg’s Nolan Zajac also netted in Iserlohn.

When the teams in Düsseldorf were already in the third break, Augsburg’s Christian Hanke increased in Iserlohn. The Panther now led 3: 1 – the Roosters would now have to achieve at least two goals to prevent the Düsseldorf descent. Despite the 3-0 intermediate result, the descent for DEG was getting closer.

All looks in the final third of Iserlohn

In the final third, the game splashed out. The game of Augsburg was more important. Seven minutes were already played in Düsseldorf when it came to the final third in Iserlohn. And for two minutes later, the hope of DEG fans got new food: Michael Dal Colle met early for the 2: 3 connection of the Roosters.

The Grizzlys seemed to have been defeated and because of the high Frankfurt leadership in Nuremberg, also with the loss of pre-playoff place. With the 3-0 in the back, the DEG now played sovereign and uncompromising and survived two minutes five minutes before the end.

Then the game was over and the eyes were aimed at the cell phones and the video cubes of the hall, where the last minutes of the game were broadcast in Iserlohn. “Iserlohn, Iserlohn” echoed through the arena. Augsburg was more and more in trouble, the Sauerlanders pressed the equalization that would have meant everything for DEG.

But the big cheering failed to do, Augsburg won in Iserlohn and thus celebrated the relegation. Since Wolfsburg also missed his goal, two losers in Düsseldorf went off the ice in the end.
