Victory against Hungary: German U21 draws ticket for the EM 2023

Moukoko takes the lead

Germany’s U21 national team qualified early for the 2023 European Championship finals. The selection of the German Football Association prevailed 4-0 (2-0) against Hungary in front of 5,609 spectators in Osnabrück on Friday and can no longer be relegated to first place in the group before the final qualifying game in Poland next Tuesday.

Storm talent Youssoufa Moukoko (17th minute), captain Jonathan Burkardt with a penalty kick (31st), Tom Krauß (76th) and Lazar Samardzic (90th + 3) scored the goals at the sold-out Bremen bridge.

The joy of the EM ticket was clouded by several injuries: Union Berlin’s newcomer Jamie Leweling and midfielder Angelo Stiller had to leave injured. Defender Malick Thiaw was stitched up on the field after an eye cut but was able to continue playing. “Jamie probably has a torn ligament,” said coach Antonio Di Salvo. Stiller was not diagnosed.

For Germany’s U21s it is the sixth participation in the European Championship. In 2023 in Romania and Georgia, the team can then defend the title of the previous generation.
