After his hunt for information about Wouter de Winther’s private life, TV critic Victor Vlam received a huge blow from Johan Derksen. Does he think the VI mustache is done with him now?
A few days after Victor Vlam was in the same Today Inside broadcast as Wouter de Winther, the TV critic wondered in his podcast what exactly happened to the private life of the Telegraaf journalist. He is said to have a hidden family life with children. “I’m really curious, someone should look into it.”
Pure gossip
That call to open a kind of hunt for Wouter’s private life went down very badly with the journalist. But Johan Derksen was also extremely critical. He said: “I think it is a good explanation, but now I think he has made a mistake, because he is now insinuating something about people he sits at. Victor Vlam has nothing to do with that!”
According to Wouter, this is the reason why we no longer see Victor in the country’s most watched talk show. He said: “It’s pure gossip. I don’t know whether it was wise of him. It doesn’t seem useful to me that you get the reputation at VI for shouting things out. I don’t see him there as a guest that often anymore, it hasn’t done him any good.”
What does Victor think?
How does Victor himself view this? What does he think of Johan’s attack? “I assume that’s relative good natured and it is simply a correction,” he says Veronica Super guide. “I take it in and think that as an opinion maker and media expert I can do many things better. Maybe I just have to find the right tone.”
It is of course painful to receive such a public scolding from the most powerful man at VI. “Normally things like that happen behind the scenes, but at VI everything happens in front of the scenes.”
Group of people
Ultimately, VI will rely less and less on Johan, Victor thinks. “My impression is that Johan is actively thinking about how he can ensure follow-up if he can no longer do it or no longer wants to. You see that there is a group of people — Thomas van Groningen, Raymond Mens and Wierd Duk — who ensure that the talk show will still exist in five years.”
These gentlemen also sometimes receive a critical note from the VI mustache. “I see the criticism he has of all of us. I think that is just a way to keep us in line, to ensure that we do the right things there. That is sometimes wise.”
