The men of VI are once again continuing under a new name. After two and a half months, VI Today will be renamed Today Inside. “I don’t think it’s wise,” says Johan Derksen.
VI Today is undeniably the most successful program on SBS 6. The men of VI effortlessly score an audience of about 700,000 viewers night after night and the channel could only have dreamed of such a stable score at prime time until recently. . However, the talk show is now somewhat on the shovel.
Today Inside
Johan Derksen reveals that VI Today will continue as Today Inside from Monday. “VI Today is no longer possible, because the management of VI believes that there is too little football in it, so they think it does not suit their football magazine. (…) I do understand their point of view. I don’t think it’s wise, but I understand their point of view.”
Colleague Wilfred Genee: “So the name VI Today is going to disappear?”
John: “Yes. It had to happen at some point: The Johan Derksen Show! No, I declined. I thought that was rude of you. No, it’s Today Inside. The abbreviation? No, we are not allowed to use the abbreviation! That’s in the contract. We can no longer say: ‘Today Inside, VI’, because the football magazine has those rights.”
Abbreviation
Wilfred: “But if you abbreviate it, it’s VI?”
Johan: “Yes, but we are not allowed to use that. I honestly think it’s a better name too. Talpa wanted that ‘VI’, but that is Voetbal International and we no longer have a football program.”
Wilfred: “It is nice to mention that the name was invented by our assistant director Jolanda Coeland, a single mother. I would say being Talpa: a small gesture can’t hurt! A small bonus!”
The men of VI previously broadcast under the names Voetbal Insite, RTL Voetbal Insite, Voetbal International, Voetbal Inside and Veronica Inside.
