Separation makes itself

In view of the ongoing criticism of his coaching colleague Ralph Hasenhüttl, his predecessor Niko Kovac has falted VfL Wolfsburg. “In general, you have little time in the Bundesliga or in our business. But you have to ask yourself when you look at how many coaches have been here in recent years, whether it is always due to the coach,” said the current BVB coach in Wolfsburg.
After the 0: 4 (0: 1) of Wolfsburg on Saturday at Borussia Dortmund, Kovac advertised more patience with the football coaches. In the Lower Saxony, the signs are increasing that Hasenhüttl has to go in summer. He had replaced Kovac as a coach in Wolfsburg a year ago. Hasenhüttl is the fourth coach of Lower Saxony within four years. He probably expects his replacement even in the summer. “I now assume that we will go home today, work for two more weeks and then let’s see what happens in summer,” he said at “Sky” about his situation. The 57-year-old still has a contract until 2026.
Hasenhüttl has come to a point cut of 1.36 since taking office in March 2024 and is therefore more successful than his predecessors Kovac (1.3), Florian Kohfeldt (1.14) and Mark van Bommel (1.15). Nevertheless, the current season is again a disappointment: Wolfsburg took twelve (to the table) with 39 points, the European places are out of reach in the fourth year in a row. In addition, the team has been waiting for a win for eight games in the league. “I always find it a little cheap to put everything on the coach,” said defender Kilian Fischer. “He’s not in the field. We players have to judge it.”
