Dissatisfied with personal balance

Christian Eriksen does not regret his move to VfL Wolfsburg last summer. For the 33-year-old, the move to Lower Saxony was the right one. “Yes. Football is fun,” explained Eriksen in an interview with “Kicker”. He never asked himself where he ended up.
“No. That was a decision I made back then. I wanted to play football and that’s what I’m doing here. Of course you always want to be in the best possible team and play for a title. But that’s not our situation right now. The important thing is: We can still achieve something good here in the end. For me it felt right – and it still feels right,” said the veteran.
He is not satisfied with his personal return – one goal and five assists in 21 games. “No, there should be more in both cases. I had chances to convert more than just one penalty. And in standard situations you should also collect a few assists. In the end you add it all up, look back and say: You did what you could. For me and the team it would be nice if there were a few more goals.”

Eriksen moved to the Wolves in mid-September as one of the most valuable professional players without a club. The attacking midfielder signed a two-year contract in the Autostadt until 2027. He did not want to answer specifically whether he would fulfill this contract in any case. “I’m not thinking about that. I don’t think we’ll be relegated,” said Eriksen, who had also been loosely linked to Bayer 04 Leverkusen. VfL has never been as bad as it is now after a 23rd matchday in its Bundesliga history. The Bundesliga club has been without a win for six games.
VfL Wolfsburg’s Eriksen has been playing with a defibrillator since 2021
Eriksen had kept himself fit at Malmö FF before his commitment to Wolfsburg after his working paper with Manchester United expired at the end of June. For him, the Bundesliga is the third of the top five leagues in which he is active, after the Premier League and Serie A. Eriksen is the 17th Danish professional in the club’s history. He wants to use the playoffs to qualify with Denmark for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico in March.
The right-footed player made the most appearances in his career for Tottenham Hotspur (305), followed by Ajax Amsterdam (163) and the Red Devils (107). It had the highest market value in 2019 at 100 million euros. Since 2021, Eriksen has been playing with a defibrillator, which was implanted in him after a cardiac arrest in the Danish national team’s first group game at the 2021 European Championship against Finland. In some countries he can therefore no longer play professional football, but in Germany he can. Daley Blind was also previously active at FC Bayern with a defibrillator.
