Mikkelin Jukurit’s top-promising defender Alberts Šmits will join the ranks of the German premier league team Red Bull Munich on a lease contract for the rest of the season, Jukurit announced on Thursday. The Latvian defender has played a top season in Jukurie’s defense, and he is expected to be a first-round pick in the coming summer’s NHL draft. The 18-year-old, who also played in the Latvian Olympic team, has played 38 matches for Jukurie this season with 6+7=13.
