VfL Osnabrück had to play a game in the 3rd league on all four Sundays in Advent. Much to the annoyance of the fans.

The supporters of VfL Osnabrück expressed their displeasure in a strange way. Because their heart club had to play on all four Sundays in Advent, they threw Christmas tree baubles and even a Christmas tree onto the pitch at the game in Verl in North Rhine-Westphalia on Sunday, thereby provoking an interruption. The fans of the third division team presented a banner with the inscription: “Thank you DFB for 4 contemplative Advent Sundays – for fan-friendly kick-off times”.

Although it is only a little more than 60 kilometers from Osnabrück to Verl, the number of Sunday games is still noticeable. Most active fan scenes in German professional football have been calling for a reform of the game plans for years and would like more games on Saturday afternoons in order to have to make fewer sacrifices for away trips.

In Verl, the long-suffering fans of the purple-whites were at least rewarded with a point. Osnabrück fought for a 1-1 draw, initially trailing after 15 minutes thanks to an own goal from defender Niklas Wiemann, but equalizing through striker Joel Zwarts after around an hour.

The second division relegated team is now second to last in the table and is five points behind a non-relegation place.
