VfL Bochum has secured the services of central defender Philipp Strompf and brewed its third newcomer, all for the defensive. The 27-year-old central defender changes from the second division relegated SSV Ulm in 1846 to the Bundesliga relegation to the area. Stromf receives a contract with VfL until June 2028. According to the “WAZ”, Bochum has drawn the exit clause, which is said to be in the low six -digit range.
Sports Managing Director Dirk Dufner sees the defender as a “highly interesting player who can represent sporty added value in many ways. He is large, robust, quickly-offers the package that distinguishes a defender. In addition, he has already got to know the 2nd Bundesliga and has already started as a leading player at SSV. We are pleased that he has chosen VfL.”
Strompf said: “I have never been to Bochum in the stadium, but I only heard good of it. I am looking forward to the atmosphere, the fans and I want to help us to be successful. VfL Bochum has been very concerned with me, the conversations have convinced me to start up for this large traditional club in the future and do my best in the future.”
Strompf moved from Sweden to Ulm in January 2024 and convinced this season as a defense chief. He was always in the starting eleven in 28 missions and scored two goals. After relegation, he had confirmed his departure on Friday by Instagram, although his contract was still running until 2026. Several clubs from the 2nd league were considered interested.
In addition to Stromf, Colin Kleine-Bekel is free from Holstein Kiel and Leandro Morgalla with a loan with a purchase option of Red Bull Salzburg. These players are needed to fill the gap that Bernardo, Ivan Ordets, Cristian Gamboa and Mohammed Tolba (all transfer -free) and Tim Oermann (for 1.5 million to 2 million euros to Bayer Leverkusen) leave with their departures in Bochum.
