The dismissal against Nick Woltemade caused trouble around the Bundesliga game of VfB Stuttgart against Werder Bremen (1-2). The former Bundesliga referee Manuel Gräfe has a clear opinion on the referee performance.
The scene in the 65th minute excited the minds in Stuttgart.
Referee Daniel Schlager showed the yellow-red card after a duel. Woltemade had touched Mitchell Weiser with the tip of the foot on the ankle. A quarter of an hour earlier he had seen the first yellow card after a duel with Niklas (49th), in which he met his opponent with his arm on his face.
Not only the Stuttgart raged during and after the game. The dismissal was “overwhelmed and false”, the usual ex-referee Manuel Gräfe also analyzed the action on “X”.
“Clearly wrong”
The first yellow card is bitter, “because Woltemade is just bigger” and his opponent “therefore hits the face unhappily.” This first yellow card is “hard”, “but still justifiable because of the hit on the face,” said Gräfe.
The second yellow card, which then led to the dismissal, was “unfortunately decisive for the game,” said Gräfe.
Continue to continue: “No stamping of the foot and only minimal contact against the leg, after both look towards the ball and struggle around the ball. Woltemade only makes a waypied movement and therefore only easily hits his foot against the leg.”
This is a typical example of a lot of dissatisfaction with the referees and what some separates from “top reefs”.
Gräfe had had to end his Bundesliga career after 289 missions in the summer of 2021 because of the age restriction of 47 years at the time at the DFB and complained. The now 51-year-old was initially granted a compensation of 48,500 euros for age discrimination by the district court. However, the compensation required by Gräfe due to lost income was refused to see why, like the DFB, he appealed. The judgment on a claim for damages from around 800,000 euros is scheduled for June 5.
Officially: VfB Stuttgart makes an objection
The establishment of Schlager at the game in Stuttgart “According to Gräfe, according to the occurrences,” is puzzling “. Schlager also criticized criticism in the missions in VfB’s games against Augsburg (no red card after foul to Angelo Stiller) and in the cup against Kaiserslautern (questionable penalty whistle).
VfB has now appealed against the yellow-red card. The club announced this on Monday.
In the communication that VfB published, it said that “a mistake by the referee” was presented by Daniel Schlager. Schlager himself “described the wrong”.
The Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle had already reported on the Sunday after the game that Schlager had told him that the dismissal was a wrong decision. The Stuttgart therefore assume that Woltemade will not be blocked for the upcoming league game at Union Berlin (April 19).
