VfB Stuttgart: Nagelsmann DFB squad – Führich “belongs in the considerations”

Chris Führich is having an outstanding season with VfB Stuttgart. People in the country make no secret of the fact that they see the attacker in the squad for the German national soccer team’s upcoming European Championship endurance tests.

“He has proven that he definitely belongs in the considerations,” commented VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß on Führich’s appearance in the Swabians’ 2-0 win at Union Berlin on Friday and said with a view to the squad announcement by national coach Julian Nagelsmann on March 14th for the European Championship against France and Holland: “I think he has increased his chances again.”

Nagelsmann had already appointed Führich to the A squad for the national team’s trip to the USA last October. The Stuttgart player made his debut in the 3-1 win against the USA and came on as a substitute in the 81st minute.

Führich had already scored his seventh goal of the season against Union, as well as the same number of assists. Other statistics also speak for the 26-year-old. A pass rate of almost 86 percent, a top speed of 34.45 km/h and 1,399 ball contacts – all personal bests for the offensive man.

“Chris is playing a good season, he keeps providing goals and assists, he creates situations and attracts players to him,” Hoeneß praised his attacker. Führich plays very consistently and manages to “constantly utilize his potential, which we all knew before. That’s great for him and great for us.” The striker must now maintain this form until the end of the season, warned Hoeneß.

National team: Matthäus is hoping for a breath of fresh air

In addition to Führich, Waldemar Anton, Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Josha Vagnoman are also hoping for a call from Nagelsmann at VfB. RTL expert Lothar Matthäus expects that the national coach will rely on new faces for the games in France on March 23rd and against Holland on March 26th in Düsseldorf (live on RTL and on RTL+).

“If he goes by performance, then some players who were there in the last games will not be there and some new ones will step up,” said Matthäus in an interview with RTL/ntv and sport.de. The record national player has Anton in mind in particular, “who is having a great season and is leading the way as captain, who gets into every duel – we need players like that at the European Championships.”
