VfB Stuttgart: Mislintat remains in relegation – transfer strategy too

Stuttgart way remains

Sporting director Sven Mislintat has confirmed that he will remain with VfB Stuttgart even in the event of relegation from the Bundesliga. “I always stand by my word and identify 100 percent with VfB and my tasks. My contract runs until June 30, 2023, and I respect that,” said the 49-year-old in an interview with “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” to the question of whether he would stay with VfB regardless of league affiliation.

The former chief scout of Borussia Dortmund and FC Arsenal has been working for the Swabians since April 2019. Despite the great danger of relegation, he wants to stick to his path of relying on many young players. “This year’s clearly formulated stage goal is to stay in the league. Having to fight for him, as we clearly predicted several times, shouldn’t lead to calling everything into question again and suddenly signing five 32-year-old players,” said Misllintat ahead of Saturday’s home game against VfL Wolfsburg.

Mislintat: VfB Stuttgart professionals not “with thoughts on another club”

Despite the 0: 2 at the relegation competitor Hertha BSC last weekend, Mislintat took his pros under his protection. “Here there isn’t a player who doesn’t care about the club or doesn’t give everything to remain top-class with VfB. There is also no player who is already thinking about another club,” he said: “If this team couldn’t handle the pressure, we would have been relegated by now.”

In the summer, top striker Sasa Kalajdzic (24) is considered a candidate for a departure, and the Austrian is said to have rejected an offer to extend. According to the new club boss Alexander Wehrle, the Swabians are not dependent on the transfer. “Since the contract and salary structure in the professional squad is healthy and the second division scenario is appropriately taken into account, no additional transfer income is necessary,” said Wehrle on Friday. The 47-year-old agreed with Mislinat on the strategy: “The path taken to focus on young players fits the DNA of this club and will continue.”
