After staying up in the relegation, Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart is continuing to work on the squad for the coming season.

Tiago Tomas, Tanguy Coulibaly and Antonis Aidonis will not be there. While the expiring contracts of right winger Coulibaly and central defender Aidonis were not renewed, the Swabians let the existing purchase option for center forward Tomas expire. This was announced by VfB on Thursday.

“We decided not to activate the agreed purchase option for Tiago,” said sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “The reason for this is primarily financial. From a sporting point of view, Tiago was a very important player for us, who in the past two seasons with his performances played a large part in the fact that VfB was able to keep the class.”

The 20-year-old Portuguese, who came to Stuttgart on loan from Sporting Lisbon in January 2022, is associated with league competitor VfL Wolfsburg. In 47 competitive games for VfB, Tomas scored eight goals and gave four assists.

Coulibaly (22) moved from the Paris St. Germain youth academy to Neckar in the summer of 2019 and played a total of 74 competitive games (six goals, three assists). Aidonis (22) appeared twice in the Bundesliga.
