VfB Stuttgart is threatened with upheaval – Bayer Leverkusen is looking at Waldemar Anton

“Kicker” report

After two seasons fighting against relegation, VfB Stuttgart is the surprise team in the Bundesliga. The Swabians are in third place in the Champions League after eleven match days. “What we are currently doing on the results side sometimes runs a little ahead of our overall development as a club,” said sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth (quoted via “Kicker“) sobered up and put the euphoria brake on: “Building up sporting and economic substance takes time.” The 44-year-old already has the personnel plans for the coming season in the back of his mind.

All market value changes from VfB Stuttgart explained in detail

It’s not just about striker Serhou Guirassy (27), who could move in January thanks to a release clause of just under 20 million euros. Stuttgart’s soaring is attracting attention and bringing numerous players into the focus of other clubs. According to the “Kicker”, Bayer Leverkusen is dealing with Waldemar Anton (27), and the VfB captain was already a topic for the “Werkself” in the summer. With a contract valid until 2025, the last chance for a transfer could exist after the season if there is no extension.

The same scenario applies to new national players Chris Führich (25) and Enzo Millot (21). Führich is said to be tempted by the Premier League, while Millot – recently promoted to U21 international – is said to be flirting with a return to his home country of France. In addition, the contracts of eleven VfB professionals expire at the end of the season. While Pascal Stenzel (27) and Fabian Bredlow (28) are, according to the report, eligible for continued employment, VfB’s paths with Lilian Egloff (21), Genki Haraguchi (32), Roberto Massimo (23) and Florian Schock (22) are likely to change ) separate.

The starting position for the loan quintet is somewhat clearer. Anthony Rouault (22) has an obligation to buy if he stays in the league, while Stuttgart has purchase options for Deniz Undav (27), Leonidas Stergiou (21) and Jamie Leweling (22). However, the latter two should not have priority. When it comes to Alexander Nübel (27), VfB does not have control over the business itself and has to come to terms with the fact that the goalkeeper’s performances have long since brought the goalkeeper back into the limelight.

VfB Stuttgart is threatened with the next upheaval: “We are very relaxed”

Nübel is tied to FC Bayern until 2025, so another loan is currently not possible. A permanent commitment should hardly be affordable for the Stuttgart team, and the question remains what Nübel himself wants and whether a door might not open for him in Munich. To make matters worse: the goalkeeper gave up around 50 percent of his Bayern salary for the loan to VfB, but he is still one of the top earners.

“We are very relaxed,” explained Wohlgemuth with a view to personnel planning, although the first discussions will take place in the background. However, these are by no means made easier by the Stuttgart team’s strong performance, but rather arouse desires such as higher salary expectations. Wohlgemuth and VfB could face the next upheaval. Last summer, eleven additions were secured, while 16 players left Stuttgart.
