VfB Stuttgart: Hoeneß trusts Guirassy to be a top club after a good season

Currently Bundesliga top scorer

Coach Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart is happy that his top scorer Serhou Guirassy is staying, but believes the striker is capable of making the leap to a top club. “He never really gave the impression that he was seriously considering moving now. He realizes that he is currently in the right place to show what he can do. And that’s a lot,” Hoeneß told the “Bild” on Sunday. The 27-year-old is “enormously good” for the Swabian Bundesliga team.

Guirassy has already scored five goals for VfB in the young season. Only club record scorer Karl Allgöwer in 1984 had managed such a haul in the first three Bundesliga matchdays for the Stuttgart team. His release clause, which is said to have been between 15 million and 20 million euros, expired in early August. After the 5-0 win against SC Freiburg on Saturday, Guirassy explained that there had also been offers. But he feels comfortable in Stuttgart with his family.

Hoeneß tried to show Guirassy “that he can really show what he’s capable of with another really good Bundesliga season, possibly 20 goals plus,” explained the VfB coach. “And then, of course, there may be completely, completely different categories of clubs.” The attacker’s contract with VfB runs until 2026.

Unlike in the big European leagues, the transfer period in Saudi Arabia has not yet ended and runs until September 7th. However, Hoeneß does not fear a change from Guirassy to the desert. “Fear would be exaggerated,” said the 41-year-old. “As long as the transfer window is open, that’s obviously a possibility. But there too: if it isn’t extremely immoral, which unfortunately mostly is, I think that Serhou really wants to play a really good season with us here, so that at some point he may start thinking about the absolute top clubs in to make Europe.”
