In the winter transfer window, Jovan Milosevic was the only new signing at Werder Bremen – a temporary contract until the end of the season. The loan from VfB Stuttgart was supposed to be the solution to the Green-Whites’ lack of goal threat, which worked well at least in part with three goals in eight appearances. Apparently there is an opportunity to stay after the season.
According to a “Bild” report, the Swabians are aiming for another loan from Milosevic. At VfB, the offensive around Deniz Undav, Ermedin Demirovic and Co. is running hot again this season; in the Bundesliga, only FC Bayern Munich (97 goals) and Borussia Dortmund (58) scored more often than Stuttgart (56). Since there are no signs of a change for Undav or Demirovic in the summer, it will likely be difficult again for Milosevic to get playing time next season.
It is quite possible that Werder will try again to get the 20-year-old striker if they stay in the league. After two goals against FC St. Pauli (1:2) and against 1. FC Heidenheim (2:0), Milosevic is currently missing with back problems. “I’m incredibly sorry for his loss because he’s developed really well and gotten better and better. The injury has gotten significantly better, we’re increasing the load day by day. We have to see whether it’s enough for Leipzig,” managing director Clemens Fritz is quoted as saying in the report.

As in the winter, if Werder were to borrow again, they would have to adhere to VfB’s condition that no purchase option is part of the deal. In the long term, the striker problem that has existed since the departures of Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch would not be solved. Victor Boniface will return to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer, and Keke Topp (1 goal in 20 appearances) and youngster Salim Musah are also in the squad as nominal center forwards.
