VfB Stuttgart: Contact Fredi Bobic when looking for a sports director?

“Sky” report

VfB Stuttgart has apparently set its sights on an old friend when looking for a new sports director. How “Sky“ reports, the Swabians have contacted Fredi Bobic to talk about a possible involvement with the Bundesliga’s surprise team. According to the TV station, VfL wanted to check the availability and interest of the manager.

All market value changes from VfB Stuttgart explained in detail

However, it is unlikely that the 51-year-old will return to his former place of work. This is because the discussions have not yet gone into detail, and on the other hand, the former center forward’s life plans do not include returning to Stuttgart. Bobic was responsible for the sporting affairs at VfB from 2010 to 2014, and in the role of sports director since April 2013.

After a successful five years at Eintracht Frankfurt, Bobic joined Hertha BSC as sports director in 2021, but had to leave early at the beginning of 2023 after only three wins from 18 games in 17th place. Bobic is in an ongoing legal dispute with the capital city. This dispute does not represent a hurdle for a job at another club.

VfB Stuttgart: Promotion of sports director Wohlgemuth remains an option

A further possibility for the vacant position in Stuttgart is a promotion of sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth, who generated a transfer plus of 28.55 million euros in the past transfer window and still led the club out of the relegation zone into the upper table region. Not a big issue according to “Sky” are Joti Chatzialexiou, sporting director at the DFB, and the clubless Horst Heldt, who, like Bobic, was already the sporting director at the Swabians.

“We are in the middle of a good process. We have approved our criteria and a requirements profile in the Supervisory Board. Now it’s about finding the best candidate for VfB from many good candidates,” said Stuttgart President Claus Vogt to the “dpa” at the beginning of September about the search for the sports director.
