HSV II will not be promoted
VfB Lübeck returns to the 3rd division after two years. The big favorite of the regional league north made the rise on Friday evening perfect with a 1-0 (0-0) win at SV Drochtersen/Assel in the district of Stade, the decisive goal was scored by Marvin Thiel in the 48th minute. At the same time, several dozen VfB fans celebrated this success at a public viewing in the home stadium at Lohmühle. The second team of Hamburger SV can still land ahead of Lübeck in the table, but will not be promoted.
With well-known coaches such as Dieter Hecking, Karl-Heinz Körbel and Michael Lorkowski, the Lübeckers even played in the 2nd Bundesliga from 1995 to 1997 and from 2002 to 2004. After a deep sporting fall into the fifth-rate Schleswig-Holstein league (2013/14), the traditional club returned to the 3rd league in 2020.
After the immediate relegation, the only 32-year-old coach Lukas Pfeiffer built a new team. She made it up the ladder on her second attempt. The best-known players are the former Bundesliga pros Mirko Boland (Eintracht Braunschweig) and Janek Sternberg (Werder Bremen).
