The most striking name in the pre-selection of the Dutch National Team is that of Jordy Clasie. The AZ midfielder tells his story about a possible comeback to Orange after the won away match against NEC (1-3). “It’s a complete surprise.”
Jordy Clasie played seventeen international matches. His last was in November 2016, a friendly match against Belgium. Now he may make his appearance again at the end of this month. The Orange squad then plays the exhibition games against Denmark and Germany.
“Nice sequel”
Not only Clasie is proud, his trainer Pascal Jansen was also very pleased with the news about his pupil. “It is a nice continuation of his development that he is now going through at AZ.” Since the departure of Teun Koopmeiners last summer, Clasie has become an integral part of the Alkmaar base. The 30-year old Haarlemmer has already played 33 games in all competitions this season, scoring twice.

2014 World Cup
Clasie was also part of the roster of Louis van Gaal who won the bronze medal in Brazil in 2014. Clasie played twice at that World Cup. The semi-final against Argentina and the match against the home country for third place.

Louis van Gaal will announce his final selection on Friday 18 March. Until then, Clasie waits quietly. “I am very level-headed about it and try to continue this line at AZ.”
