Very large fire in Tilburg under control, two buildings hit

A very large fire raged in the storage of a company on Kapitein Nemostraat in Tilburg on Sunday. The smoke development could be seen for miles around. The fire brigade came out in large numbers. An NL-alert was also sent. The fire was brought under control just before 7 p.m. The extinguishing will last all night.

According to the Safety Region, the fire broke out in a textile company where old clothing was pressed into bales. The shed burned down completely and is considered lost. “The steel construction has completely collapsed,” said Vincent Baartmans of the Security Region. The fire spread to a nearby car dealership. That was also damaged, but could be preserved. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown. A drone was used to get a good picture of the fires. Water was also pumped from the Wilhelmina Canal to fight the fire.

Power failure
As a result of the fire, twelve homes and a caravan camp in the immediate vicinity are affected by a power outage. Enexis is busy reconnecting the power for these houses. That is expected to last until 9 p.m.

The police cordoned off the area because several explosions were observed during the fire. The Security Region called for windows and doors to be closed and ventilation to be turned off.

For the Tilburg firefighters it was a job with mixed feelings. A firefighter was killed in a fire at the same location 30 years ago. A colleague was seriously injured.
