Very busy morning rush hour in Brabant: ‘Don’t go on the road just yet’

Stormy weather with rain showers and heavy gusts of wind causes congestion on the Brabant highways. According to the ANWB, the greatest crowds can be found in the south of the country, of which 95% of the traffic jams are in Brabant.

“As expected, it is a lot busier than usual on the road. The daily traffic jams are getting longer, because people keep more distance because of the weather. As a result, traffic jams are getting longer, but as a result the number of accidents is also lower,” says Wijnand Zwaan of the ANWB.

A long traffic jam arose early on Thursday morning on the A27 (from Breda towards Gorinchem) after an accident. Traffic was delayed for nearly an hour and a half. Traffic was also jammed on the A2 after an accident. In the meantime, the lanes in these two places have been reopened and the delay is decreasing.

The daily traffic jams are longer than usual. The A2, A27 and A50 in particular stand out because of longer traffic jams than usual.

On the road after half past ten
Zwaan notes that the biggest crowds can be found in the south of the country. This also includes parts of Limburg and Gelderland. “But the majority of traffic jams in the south can be found in Brabant, namely 95%. Nationally, most traffic jams are also in the south of the country.”

He advises road users to hit the road after half past nine. “But I can imagine that it is not possible for everyone to work from home or leave later. But it should be less busy at that time.”

Record crowds
There are a total of 74 traffic jams with a total length of 407 kilometers in Brabant around eight o’clock. Nationally, this is a length of 940 kilometers, breaking the national record. The previous national record was on Tuesday, September 27, when there were 925 kilometers of traffic jams in the morning rush hour.

Due to the bad weather, a busy evening rush hour is also expected.
