After his emotional farewell to Leicester City after 13 years, Jamie Vardy apparently decided to continue playing football at the highest level. According to the matching media reports, the 38-year-old striker agreed with Serie-A promoted Us Cremonese about a one-year contract. Transferist Journalist Fabrizio Romano also reports on an option for another season, at the end of which the 26-time English international would be 40 years old.
Vardy should travel to Lombardy during the day. Cremona is located a little south of Milan and halfway towards Verona. The gray-red had qualified as the third promoted upper house via the series B playoffs. They had returned there for the first time in 2022 after 27 years, but immediately relegated. With Davide Nicola, the trainer at Cremonese is a specialist for the relegation battle, for example, the newcomers include the Youngster Warren Bondo (21) and Filippo Terracciano (22) and the Paraguayan international Antonio Sanabria (29). The latter is a potential storm partner Vardys.
Vardy’s contract in Leicester had expired in June after 13 years, 500 games and 200 goals and 71 assists. In 2016 he wrote with the Foxes history and won the championship as an absolute underdog. At the time, he reached its highest market value with 20 million euros.
In 2020 Vardy became top scorer of the Premier League with 23 goals. For him, Cremonese becomes the first stop abroad – in late autumn of the career. In front of Leicester, Vardy had played at Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town – never higher than in the 5th division. The Foxes put 1.24 million euros on the table in 2012. An investment in an unknown player at this time that was more than worth it.
