‘Van Warmerdam actor’ Henri Garcin (94) passed away

French-Belgian actor Henri Garcin died on Monday at the age of 94 in Paris. This is reported by French media. Film and theater producer Marc van Warmerdam, who worked with him for more than thirty years, confirms the news after having had contact with relatives of Garcin.

The actor was best known in the Netherlands because he appeared in five films by director Alex van Warmerdam. He could be seen as father Victor in Abel, the debut of the acclaimed director from 1986. This was followed by De Noorderlingen, De Jurk, Grimm and Schneider vs. bax. Garcin was also seen a number of times as a judge in the Pleidooi series and he played in two films by Jos Stelling: No Trains No Planes (1999) and The Girl and Death (2012).

The actor was born in Antwerp in 1929, but left for Paris at a young age. He mainly worked in France: Garcin played his first leading role in 1966 in La vie de Chateau alongside Catherine Deneuve and Philippe Noiret. But certainly in the eighties and nineties he was also regularly seen in Belgian and Dutch films.

Other big titles Garcin played in were Koko Flannel with Urbanus and Le Huitième Jour. Sporadically, Garcin was seen in a Hollywood production. He played the president in the 2006 remake of The Pink Panther. The actor was also on stage a lot, especially in France.
