Van Vleuten, fractured elbow after falling. In doubt for Saturday

The Dutch, queen of the Giro, Tour and Vuelta, had sensationally fallen at the start of the mixed chronograph

The fall, a few meters after the start of the mixed time trial, was sensational. Both for the dynamics and because it was Annemiek Van Vleuten, queen of Giro, Tour and Vuelta, who was involved. It was she herself, through twitter, who commented on the incident at the beginning: “My front tire exploded and I crashed. I have a lot of bruises all over the right side of my body, now I’m going to the hospital to have x-rays. What worries me most are the elbow and the right arm ». A few hours later, she added: “I don’t know what happened, but it looks like the tire exploded after I hit the side of the road. So rubber wasn’t the problem. Something got me off balance but whatever it is, it won’t help or change my situation. Now in the hospital ”.

MEDICAL BULLETIN – The Dutch Cycling Federation has published on the pages of its website a note informing that Van Vleuten was found: “A compound fracture in his right elbow. A final decision on whether or not to participate in the road race will be made by the end of this week (if so, it will not be replaced) ”. The document specifies that the athlete is allowed to ride a bike, but the unknowns are related to how Van Vleuten will manage elbow pain.
