The Dutch darts professional Gian van Veen has successfully defended his title at the Junior World Championships. In Minehead, the 23-year-old defeated England’s Beau Greaves 6-3 and secured prize money of 12,000 pounds (around 13,700 euros).
After the Belgian Dimitri van den Bergh (2017 and 2018), van Veen is only the second player to repeat his triumph.
Against Greaves, who had impressively eliminated darts world champion Luke Littler in the semi-finals, van Veen got off to a better start in Minehead, England and kept a cool head in the crucial moments.
The title is actually worth it in several ways: The winner of the Junior World Championship also receives the right to take part in the Darts World Championship and the Grand Slam of Darts 2026. But van Veen has long since arrived on the big stage as tenth in the world rankings. At the end of October he won his first major final and became the youngest European darts champion in history against former world champion Luke Humphries.
On Monday, van Veen is looking forward to London with excitement. The draw for the World Cup will take place in the Ally Pally from 5:30 p.m. (DAZN). Like Greaves, he had already qualified for this before the triumph in Minehead.
