Van Peteghem still plans to prepare major tax reform: “I am very ambitious” | Economy

Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem is still planning to prepare a major tax reform before the end of the legislature. He answered this in the House to questions from Vlaams Belang and PVDA. “I am very ambitious”, it sounded. In terms of content, the CD&V deputy prime minister has not yet let himself be looked at.

The coalition agreement states that Vivaldi is preparing a comprehensive tax reform to simplify the tax system and make it more equitable. Reducing the taxes on labor is one of the guiding principles.

It is the task of Minister Van Peteghem to set this reform in motion. In the past two years, however, it has remained remarkably quiet. Last year, Van Peteghem appointed tax law professor Mark Delanote as coordinator, together with a team of tax specialists and economists. The High Council of Finance was asked to further develop the technical options.

Preliminary analyzes completed

According to Van Peteghem, a lot of preparatory analyzes have been completed in the meantime. On 5 July, the FPS Finance is organizing a study day on the theme. The reports will then be presented, he informed Wouter Vermeersch (Vlaams Belang) and Marco Van Hees (PVDA).

A blueprint will follow shortly. Van Peteghem did not let go of anything yet, although he did say that he is “very ambitious” and “to do everything in his power to bring the task to a successful conclusion”. The CD&V deputy prime minister reiterated, among other things, that the aim is to lower taxes on labour. “I think that will benefit the middle class in any case.”
