Van Gunst enjoys last job as head coach DOS’46

KORFBAL – “Now that I’m in the middle of it again, I really like it again,” says Herman van Gunst (67). Two weeks ago he started his fifth period as head coach of the korfball players of DOS’46 from Nijeveen.

As chairman of the technical committee, he saw with his own eyes that there was no longer any chemistry between trainer Edwin Bouman and the player group. Then the board called on him.

“I said to the board: ask a few others first. And if it doesn’t work, come back. A day later they were there again. But we had already seen it coming a bit at home, so m’ A woman and I had already discussed it: if they ask me, I will do it,” Van Gunst responds.

The trainer is still crazy about the game. “It keeps me busy now. Even when I lie awake at night, I think about it. Actually, I think about korfball all day long.”

Preservation

The coaching change came at a crucial time in the season. Last Saturday DOS’46 needed one more point against TOP from Sassenheim to maintain their body in the Korfball League. Otherwise, the team from Nijeveen would have had to fight against relegation for the rest of the season. But the mission was accomplished 17-17.

“I was a bit tense all day. Because you know it’s up or down. But during the match I just did my thing, just like during other matches. And sometimes you don’t need a bit of luck have,” says Van Gunst. “I must say that the kick of getting results pays off a lot.”
