Van Gerwen stops crazy Littler run in the World Series

Looking ahead to spring, darts super talent Luke Littler should be able to cope with the end of his winning streak.

After strong performances, the 17-year-old World Cup finalist is heading to New York for the World Series, where the US Darts Masters will be held on May 31st and June 1st. Littler’s 6:8 defeat against Michael van Gerwen in the final of the second station in Den Bosch, Netherlands, didn’t change that.

After starting the World Association PDC tournaments with four wins in Bahrain and three successes in Den Bosch, the Dutchman van Gerwen was too strong. “I’ll take the positive with me. That was an incredible game. I put Michael under pressure, but he just didn’t give up,” said Littler, who watched the rematch of the World Cup final against Luke Humphries (England) and the duel against which Welshman Gerwyn Price won.

Littler and van Gerwen can travel to New York as top-seeded professionals.

Littler’s next debut is on Thursday (8 p.m./Sport1 and DAZN). The youngster makes his first appearance in the Premier League in Cardiff. A week later (February 8th) Littler will play in Berlin, where the second leg of the prestigious league will take place.
