Rene Rinnekangas placed sixth in the X Games big air competition. Japan won the invitational competition in Aspen, USA Taiga Hasegawa.

In the renewed format, Rinnekangas started strongly. In the first round, you had to perform a style trick, which determined ten percent of the total score. Rinnekangas won this round with 9/10 points switch backside rodeo from Japan.

In the race, which was continued with the jam format, the Finn attempted the next two rounds frontside from 1800but didn’t quite get the rotation stopped on the way down.

After this, Rinnekangas hit the counter with a trick never seen before in the Games. It took off caballerial with a double rolland before coming down the man turned back to the switch.

– It’s really nice that it was successful, Rinnekangas mused in the Snowboard Association’s press release.

It took the judges a long time to think about how to reward the new trick. In the end, the Finn got 34 points for it. In the last round, Rinnekangas got even more from trying earlier frontside 1800collecting a total of 73 points.

Last season’s X Games was missed by Rinnekanka due to injury. Now he is looking forward to Sunday’s slopestyle competition.

– First of all, it feels good to be back on the board. Laax was the first race where I felt like I could count a bit after the injury, so it was nice to go here to compete.

The slopestyle competition starts at 20:00 Finnish time. You can follow the race live On the X Games website.
