User opinion SC Paderborn: A solid number even under Kwasniok

Fan series for the 2nd league

With the help of the community, Transfermarkt will take a detailed look at the 56 teams in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and Bundesliga 3 in the coming weeks. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? We asked around in the forums and got our opinions – in league two we continue with user “blond” and SC Paderborn 07.

After the departure of successful coach Steffen Baumgart, who found a new challenge in Cologne, many Paderborn residents looked down again. But his successor Lukas Kwasniok managed to continue on the successful path of the past few years. Seventh place with 51 points in the first year can certainly be considered a success.

How do you rate the SC Paderborn squad?

Thanks to the early planning security, the SCP was able to start putting together the new squad early on and start the preparations early. The friendlies against Ajax Amsterdam (5:2) as well as Bochum and Osnabrück (2:0 each) reflected this, and the start of the season with three points from two games is also solid in terms of performance. The most painful exit came at the beginning of the second half of the season when top scorer Sven Michel moved from East Westphalia to Berlin. Other important players were lost in Jamilu Collins (Cardiff) and Kai Pröger (Hansa).

On the other hand, the SCP was able to sign Jasper van der Werff from Salzburg. With Robin Bormuth (KSC) and Robert Leipertz (FC Heidenheim) a lot of experience came into the squad and from the strong promoted 1. FC Magdeburg a trio came to the Pader: Tobias Müller, Sirlord Conteh and Raphael Obermair. Richmond Tachie was taken from the Dortmund junior team for the storm.

Where do you see a need for improvement by Deadline Day?

In my opinion, another player should be looked for for the position of centre-forward, as Felix Platte is too injury-prone and Dennis Srbeny is not consistent enough. Efforts should also continue to be made to bring Philipp Klement back from VfB Stuttgart. Further reinforcements would depend on potential departures.

What do you expect from the playful appearance of the team?

The past season had a lot of ups and downs. While they presented themselves as powerful away from home – third place behind promoted Schalke and Bremen – things were rather disappointing at home. Only four victories could be celebrated in the Benteler Arena, now Home Deluxe Arena.

Kwasniok has retained the basic offensive orientation that has shaped the face of the SCP for years – even if his tactical orientation is more variable. Depending on the opponent, he plays with a back four or three: up front with a striker and three attacking midfielders behind him or with two attackers and two players on the wings.

The fast midfield is still the great strength, but often ineffective against deep opponents, because in these cases it doesn’t work to let the ball run and tear holes. Ron Schallenberg and Florent Muslija could take on the most central roles on the pitch: one as a careful ball distributor from the defensive, the other as a lively preparer and executor.

What’s in it for SC Paderborn in 2022/23?

At the moment I don’t see a clear distribution of the roles in terms of promotion and relegation. The 2021/22 season was damn close and exciting. But 2022/23 could go one better. So I would be happy again with a one-digit place in the table for the SCP.
