User opinion FC Bayern: Successful start to the season, truth is in April

End of the Bundesliga fan series

After the 2nd Bundesliga and 3rd Liga, Transfermarkt also takes a detailed look at the 18 teams in the Bundesliga with the help of the community. Which players are the fans looking forward to the most, where is there room for improvement and what is in the squad for 2022/23 for your favorite club? We asked around in the forums and got our opinions – “Dio” ended up with FC Bayern.

How do you rate the FC Bayern squad?

After the squad was always good in the past seasons, but weak points were often skilfully ignored and very late transfers were made with perceived emergency solutions, this summer there was an almost opposite transfer period. With the early signings of Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui, two supposed weaknesses in the squad were immediately plugged: an offensive right-back counterpart for Alphonso Davies as an alternative to Benjamin Pavard, who was trained as a central defender and therefore more defensively oriented, was long overdue. Mazraoui has proven his ability for this position over the years and has also shown it internationally at Ajax.

With Gravenberch there is now another alternative in central midfield to succeed Corentin Tolisso: a tall player with a similar offensive drive as Leon Goretzka, but with a much stronger first contact. In addition, Marcel Sabitzer can be seen here as a new signing after his difficult first year, who is very convincing in the first few games.

Paradoxically, the departure of the best scorer of the last ten years could also strengthen the squad structure: On the one hand, Sadio Mané, who is also very accurate, but also more versatile offensive player, who also seems more compatible in character, was brought in – on the other hand, there is the loss of the unique target player Robert Lewandowski more freedom for Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané to seek the end more often and to process the sure-fire passes from Thomas Müller.

The fact that Mathys Tel and Gabriel Vidovic, two of the most promising talents in Europe, are also pushing (although Vidovic could still change) gives hope that an alternative to Müller will emerge in the long run. The departure of Niklas Süle was very expensive, but also compensated very promisingly with Matthijs de Ligt, who was four years younger. The departures of Tanguy Nianzou, Marc Roca, Chris and Omar Richards, Lars Lukas Mai, the young goalkeepers Christian Früchtl and Ron-Thorben Hoffmann as well as the loan of Malik Tillman are hardly significant, since none of them played a particularly important role or were already on loan were.

Where do you still see a need for improvement by the beginning of September?

The first games show: There doesn’t seem to be any real need for improvement. While there is no named alternative to Davies at left-back following the departure of Omar Richards, Lucas Hernández has played the role as well, if not better, at left-back than Pavard at right-back. A purely defensive midfielder, who could take on a role like Javi Martinez once did, might give the squad one more option. But whether you could find a personality that would not entail any loss of quality: difficult. Nothing more will happen.

How do you expect FC Bayern to perform in terms of play?

After investing a total of almost 230 million euros in the four central defenders who are now in the squad, Julian Nagelsmann has the task of creating a defensive that is solid on an international level. However, the main focus should be on preventing midfield passes, which have repeatedly been fatal to the high IVs in the past. On the other hand, the game will become less wing-heavy, especially on the offensive: With more variability without the target player Lewandowski, the center will already be concentrated on the offensive, which will do the rest of the defense good.

What’s in store for FC Bayern over the entire season?

The truth lies in April: It’s a pity for the Bundesliga: Nationally, no team will be able to counter it. The task is to be at eye level internationally by April and to have found automatisms. Then, on good days, anything could be possible.
