Raised in the Bronx, New York, rapper Lil Tjay became a report according to the American news site TMZ shot in New Jersey. The 21-year-old was then taken to a hospital and operated on. It is not yet clear how serious his injuries are. However, a tweet by fellow rapper French Montana asking for prayers for his friend suggests that Lil Tjay’s health could be extremely serious.

The incident happened around midnight on Tuesday evening. The starting point of the shooting is said to have been an argument in front of a restaurant of the US fast food chain Chipotle. The first shots were fired there. As a result, the shooting would probably have shifted to a nearby gas station. According to police, at least one person was injured in both places. It is still unclear how the argument and the shooting came about. Police said they would be releasing more information soon.
Lil Tjay was born to a single mother of Ghanaian descent in New York. Even as a teenager he ended up in prison for theft, where he processed his frustration and his thoughts in rap lyrics. After his release in 2017, he put his first songs online and quickly became known with them. His first EP NO COMPARISON was released in 2018. With his EP FN, released six months later, the rapper entered the American and British charts for the first time and made his breakthrough. His current single “Going Up” was released in April.
