The 31-year-old Pegula plays in the semi-finals against Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus. The first-placed tennis star from Belarus did not have to take action in the quarterfinals. Her opponent Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic gave up injured just before the game.
Pegula lost last year on the US Open in the final of Sabalenka.
Pegula quickly took a 4-1 lead and decided the first set after Krejcikova had returned to 4-3 (6-3). She also started well on the second set (4-2) and was no longer the lead (6-3). The match lasted almost an hour and a half.

“I think I played tennis well,” said Pegula just after her game during a flash interview at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. “I felt really comfortable on the biggest track in the world, with the most crazy audience in the stands. I play with confidence. I put everything in a row and I don’t get stuck in what I do. That way I don’t end up in a vicious circle.”
