Carlos Alcaraz won the generation duel against Nocak Djokovic and thus the semi -finals of the US Open. Against the 14 years of older Serbs, he played all his strengths and again demonstrated why he is considered one of the best tennis players in the world.
The semi -finals between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic held what it had promised: tension, fighting spirit and high -class rallies. After almost two and a half hours of Youngster Alcaraz, the generational duel ultimately won the 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4) and 6: 2.
“Being here again in the final of the US Open feels great. It wasn’t the best level of the tournament of me. I opened very well, that was very important today. In general, I played good tennis,” said Alcaraz after his success in 2:23 hours.
Hard -fought semi -finals
The 22-year-old Alcaraz got off to a better start in the semi-finals of the US Open against the 38-year-old Djokovic. Alcaraz played very concentrated, served stable and put a lot of pressure on the Serbian veteran. However, he only had to a limited extent, showed a few strong actions, but the Spaniard Alcaraz was not impressed. The first set 6: 4 deservedly went to the youngster.
In the second set, Novak Djokovic showed why he dominated for years. Unimpressed from the first set, Djokovic tackled the game much more offensive, returned one ball after the other and seemed to make Alcaraz think. But the Spaniard wobbled briefly, adapting his game. From then on, the two tennis stars fought an extra class. Alcaraz finally prevailed in the tiebreak.
Djokovic obviously left some grains lying down in the exhausting second set. The Serb seemed visibly exhausted while Alcaraz held the high level. Alcaraz clearly dominated the third set and was able to celebrate the entry into the final. There he is about the sixth Grand Slam title of his career.
Measure of all things
With the performance, Alcaraz confirms that the balance of power has changed. He and Jannik Sinner are currently the benchmark in men’s tennis. In the last seven tournaments, the two make up the Grand Slam titles among themselves-as Djokovic and Co. also showed both hard performances in this tournament and easily moved into their semi-finals.
The two dominators could meet again on Sunday. In the second semi-finals, the Italian Sinner and Canadian Felix Auger-Alicassime fight for the second final ticket.
