The FCC unanimously decided that the Chinese company is no longer allowed to operate in the US. The company has 60 days to withdraw from the US market. FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement that there is “growing evidence, and growing concern, that Chinese state-owned enterprises pose a real threat to the security of our telecommunications networks.”

According to China Unicom, these concerns are unfounded and the decision was made by the FCC “without due process of law”. The company emphasizes that it has “established a good reputation and adhering to US laws and regulations over the past two decades”.

China Unicom was delisted from the US stock market last year at the hands of then-President Donald Trump.
