For Jazzy de Groot it was essential that the paintings come together again as one whole. “It is special to see them all together. In the way that they should be: as an ensemble that you can walk past,” says the restorer as she stands in the middle of the church and looks around.
To repair heat, soot and water damage, she developed a unique technique. “More than 95 percent of the paint was still there, but it had to be rescued, patched back and stabilized.” End of 2022 NH News visited herwhen she was still in the middle of the restoration process.
