Unterhaching no longer puts up free transfer candidates – always the “oh so poor players”

Coach Wagner “carries model with”

SpVgg Unterhaching does not use any players who can leave the club for free in the coming transfer window and who refuse to extend their contract. This was confirmed by President Manfred Schwabl of “Sport Bild”. Specifically, this currently affects Felix Göttlicher, who is only 19 and willing to change. The club boss of the regional league said of the young central defender from his own offspring: “If he had extended, it would have gone further.”

Schwabl – and also coach Sandro Wagner “supports this model” – explained: “We are not the toughest club, but just consistent. (…) It bothers me that it’s always about the oh so poor players. There are rights and obligations for both parties. A club must fulfill its obligations and act accordingly.” The reason for the attitude is Haching’s role as a training and sales club. That’s the only way to survive financially, with transfer fees, “like it happened in the past with Adeyemi, Mantl, Niederlechner or Haberer”.

Schwabl also emphasized that the concept will be continued in the same way in the future. “We can’t do a free transfer, then the club will go bust,” said the president, who also claims to have “softened” his principles with regard to the sufferer Göttlicher, so that he “at the request of the coach until was allowed to play for the winter”. But even after that Göttlicher could not be persuaded to stay, and since there was no winter transfer either, the decision was made to de facto suspension. Schwabl said: “We are open with the players, Felix Göttlicher also knew that: If they don’t extend, then they don’t play with us anymore.”

Göttlicher: “I was sent a non-negotiable contract”

Göttlicher, meanwhile, is looking to the next step, he has offers from the 2nd and 3rd leagues. “Sport Bild” names 1. FC Heidenheim and Viktoria Köln as contenders. But Göttlicher explained: “Unterhaching didn’t really get involved with that. I was sent a non-negotiable contract signed by the President” — with reduced pay, according to the report. According to the player, he and his advisor sought an amicable solution, but “unfortunately that was blocked”.

Göttlicher’s verdict on the blocking attitude of ex-Bayern professional Schwabl: “In my opinion, there are only losers in this situation.” However, he will continue to “train with concentration and do everything in my power for the club and the team”.
