Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer sees a clear need for improvement in his team before the cup duel with Eintracht Frankfurt compared to the Bundesliga game between the two teams a good two weeks ago.

“We have to do a few things better than in the last meeting,” said the Swiss on Monday before the DFB Cup quarter-finals at Eintracht on Tuesday (6 p.m. / ZDF and Sky). His team struggled in the 2-0 win over Hessen in the An der Alten Försterei stadium on March 19 and “needed a lot of luck”.

There are currently some problems at Eintracht. Trainer Oliver Glasner and board spokesman Axel Hellmann are being courted, and a dispute is raging between the board and the supervisory board at management level. The team has been without a win since mid-February. However, Fischer emphasized the qualities of Frankfurt: “They are really a very strong team.”

The Hessians have a very good mix to lure an opponent, always come into the half-spaces and then play behind the defensive line. But Frankfurt also used long balls well, said the 57-year-old. “They have really strong players up front, difference players.”

The third-placed Bundesliga player from Köpenick slept through the first half against VfB Stuttgart (3-0) at the weekend, just like against Frankfurt. His team “certainly strained” the luck of the game, but the team still put in a lot of effort, said Fischer. “That is also the prerequisite that luck is on our side at the moment.”

The Swiss said the many English weeks had left their mark. “We make a living from being able to prepare for an opponent for a week,” he said.
