Union Berlin: Fofana apologizes – frustration also for Bonucci

Frustration among two Union professionals

Union Berlin striker David Datro Fofana (20) apologized to his teammates and coach Urs Fischer for his behavior after being substituted. “This gesture was not intentional and in no way represents my attitude. All this arose out of frustration because I wanted to continue to help the team achieve a positive result,” the Ivorian wrote on Instagram after the 0-1 defeat the Champions League against SSC Napoli.

After being substituted in the 70th minute, Chelsea loanee Fofana walked past Fischer without making eye contact or shaking hands, which visibly annoyed the Swiss. Later, managing director Oliver Ruhnert talked to the attacker on the substitutes’ bench. At the subsequent press conference, Fischer announced a conversation with Fofana.

Captain Christopher Trimmel did not want to exaggerate the incident. “Situations like this with David also happen in football,” said the Austrian. “The only important thing is how he reacts to it. Whether he apologizes or not.”

Leonardo Bonucci blames Union Berlin for frustration: Urs Fischer understands

Meanwhile, Coach Fischer reacted with surprise to media reports that Leonardo Bonucci wanted to talk to him after he returned to reserve role. “I can say that I spoke to Leo this week. That’s why it surprises me a bit,” he said after the game. Transfer expert had it during the game Fabrizio Romano reports that Bonucci would like to talk to the trainer about his situation this Wednesday.

As was the case recently in the Bundesliga, Bonucci did not receive any minutes against Naples. “Of course he is unhappy. I hope that all my players really want to play,” said Fischer, who once again brought in Robin Knoche for Bonucci. “I don’t think the decision was that wrong today,” Fischer continued.

Bonucci was one of Berlin’s star newcomers in the summer alongside national player Robin Gosens. In the absence of the injured defense chief Knoche, the 2021 Italian European champion was in Union’s defense. However, the 36-year-old veteran hasn’t been of any real help so far. Since Knoche’s return, Bonucci hasn’t been on the field for a minute. The Italian came from Juventus on a free transfer and signed a one-year contract in Köpenick.
