Union Berlin: Eta about intense weeks between shock and turnaround

Assistant trainer in an interview

Union Berlin’s new assistant coach Marie-Louise Eta has had intense and emotional weeks. “It happened relatively quickly and somehow feels strange,” explained the first woman in this position at a men’s Bundesliga club in a club interview.

Marco Grote and the 32-year-old initially stepped in as interim coaching team at the Bundesliga club in mid-November after Urs Fischer said goodbye. “We also really wanted the turnaround with the coaching team to work. That’s why it was a crazy ups and down of emotions,” said Eta in the video that the Köpenickers posted on YouTube on Thursday evening. “Of course Marco and I were happy that we had the trust. But first and foremost it was a shock, a disappointment and also totally sad,” said the former soccer player. Also because she knew Fischer and assistant Markus Hoffmann well. “It was about helping the club achieve a turnaround.”

Eta continues to be an assistant coach under the new coach of the bottom team in the Bundesliga, Nenad Bjelica. “With the new coaching team, you first have to get to know each other and see where you can support them. There was little time to think.” It’s about finding yourself quickly. The Dresden native also made history in the premier class in the game at SC Braga. “The first Champions League game was of course crazy and something special. “You will always remember it.” On Saturday, the Köpenick team will host Borussia Mönchengladbach at the An der Alten Försterei stadium.
