This ended the successful streak for Bochum under new coach Uwe Rösler, who had scored ten points from the first four games with VfL. Dresden, on the other hand, managed to make it three again after nine league games without a win and climbed to 16th place for the time being.

We had a lot of good games in which we didn’t reward ourselves.”said Dresden coach Thomas Stamm on the ARD microphone. “We defended well and were very efficient. We needed a good goalkeeper in the second half. But overall it was deserved.”

“We had enough chances and could have turned the game around”said Bochum keeper Timo Horn angrily on the ARD microphone, but also said: “In the first half we weren’t in the game at all, we have to accept blame for that.”

Dresden ends a negative streak of nine games without a win

Despite the negative series, Dresden presented itself defensively concentrated from the start and also looked for its chances going forward: Rossipal resolutely followed up after a confusing situation in the Bochum penalty area and scored the opening goal.

As a result, the guests were the more dangerous team. Konrad Faber had the next big chance four minutes before the break, Horn in the box saved with a foot save. In injury time of the first half, Bochum’s keeper was also powerless – also because the people in front of him were under no pressure at all on the opponent: Rossipal was able to cross unhindered, and Vermeij made a remarkable finish with the outside of his foot to make it 2-0.

Bochum stormed after the break

Bochum finally acted with more conviction after the break, especially Kobi Miyoshi’s cross was a clear boost. The Japanese whirled on the right side and repeatedly caused danger with his crosses. This was also the case with the subsequent goal, when Hiyoshi brought the ball sharply in front of the goal after a corner. VfL homegrown Lenz switched gears fastest and scored to make it 1-2.

Bochum was now in control, it was a game of one goal: Mats Pnewig missed two great chances to equalize, first putting a header wide from a central position (62′). Shortly afterwards he only had Dynamo keeper Lennart Grill in front of him in the penalty area, but again he couldn’t get the ball into the box (68′). Three minutes later, Grill made a great save, defusing Philipp Strompf’s header from close range.

Dresden’s Grill with a great act and misfires, Bochum’s Onyeka misses a penalty

In the 75th minute, Dynamo’s keeper made an almost fatal mistake: Grill missed a back pass and took the onrushing Philipp Hofmann off his feet. There was a penalty for Bochum, but Onyeka put the ball past the box on the left. Miyoshi then came a step too late in stoppage time – and missed the last chance to equalize.
