Rijkswaterstaat decided last night at 9.30 pm to completely close the A9 between Holendrecht and Badhoevedorp junctions. “A difficult decision, because you send a lot of road users into the traffic jam.”
Yesterday, road users could still use the bridge. There was therefore never a danger of collapse, Postma emphasizes. However, part of the concrete could be broken, which could create a large pit.
Carelessly work?
Rijkswaterstaat does not yet know how this could have happened. In principle, the drawings clearly show exactly where those steel bars are in the concrete. “It could not be that they were not on the spot where she expected it, or maybe they went a little carelessly? We are looking for that now.”
At the moment it is not clear how long the closure will take. Rijkswaterstaat expects a definitive answer to the calculation in the course of the morning, but Postma cannot say when the bridge will open again.
