Uncertain future TLC at Rodenburg sports park

TLC made it difficult for leader Grijpskerk in the Westerkwartier derby for a long time, but still suffered a big 4-0 defeat in the last half hour.

Relocation

TLC drops to the penultimate place in the ranking due to the loss, which means relegation at the end of the season. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it also became clear last week that the club may have to move to another location. The municipality is investigating whether new construction is possible on the site of the current sports park.

The news came as a surprise to TLC, said chairman Jan Rockers. “We just wanted to knock on the door of the municipality for the renewal of the changing rooms and a cycle path along the sports hall, but nothing will be done about that as long as the investigation is ongoing. The clubhouse is ours, but the land belongs to the municipality, so now we just have to wait and see what happens. There’s a chance we’ll have to get out of here.”

Direct relegation place

There were other concerns on the field. The defeat put TLC in a direct relegation place. And that loss was partly self-inflicted. In the second minute, for example, unnecessary ball loss was suffered in midfield, after which Jelle Schoenmaker offered his brother Joost an opportunity that should not be missed: 0-1.

Grijpskerk was stronger and could have run out further, but after about twenty minutes the hardworking TLC came into the game better. If Allard Bolwijn had aimed his header a little lower halfway through the first half, the home team would have come alongside.

Stupid ball loss

The bumpy field did not lend itself to well-groomed football and Grijpskerk picked up on that better after the break. The depth was sought faster and after just over an hour of play the decision was made. After another clumsy loss of the ball at the back line of a TLC defender, Jorin de Boer flicked a cross with some fortune past TLC goalkeeper Jochem Bos: 0-2.

With that the duel was decided. Joost Schoenmaker and substitute Wouter Postma lifted the final score to 0-4. Grijpskerk did good business, because runner-up Groen Geel lost and the lead is now six points. ,,It was difficult to play football on this field,” said Grijpskerk coach Rinie Jurna. “We handled it better in the second half.”
