UN Security Council will meet on Monday for emergency consultations in Syria

The UN Security Council will meet on Monday at 3 p.m. local time (9 p.m. Dutch time) for an emergency meeting on the situation in Syria at its headquarters in New York. Diplomatic sources reported this to the AFP news agency. This concerns a closed-door meeting that is said to have been requested by Russia, one of the five permanent members of the Security Council.

Russia is a staunch ally of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad. Russian President Vladimir Putin is said to have granted him and his family asylum.
