Schilder received the most votes from other athletes and the professional jury in the election. She received the accompanying Jaap Eden Award from former cyclist Tom Dumoulin.
The Volendam native trumped cyclist Lorena Wiebes, athlete Femke Bol, swimmer Marrit Steenbergen and skater Joy Beune. Sifan Hassan, who won last year, was not nominated.
