Honorary President Uli Hoeneß took the public outrage on the Ibiza trip of the FC Bayern professionals as an opportunity for fundamental criticism of the German media landscape.
“These are things that are typical of the condition of our media – that they take as nonsense as a little journey as important. It’s no longer about football, it is about every fart left and right,” said Hoeneß in the evening in Munich.
Some Bayern professionals had flown to Ibiza in their free time after last weekend and the handover of the master shell and had had to take up a lot of criticism.
Thomas Müller also ran against the critics after the 4-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim. “There is always a lot about morality. If you can point to others with your finger, you are at the front,” said the 35-year-old.
Among other things, Bayern had been accused of distorting the competition in the relegation battle. “Hoffenheim would have liked not to travel to Ibiza,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. So the team was only really stored.
Causa Wirtz: Hoeneß is covered
Hoeneß was satisfied with the Munich Bundesliga season. Anyone who had told him before the season that Bayern was 13 points ahead of defending champion Bayer Leverkusen and 25 points ahead of Dortmund, he would have “declared crazy”, said Hoeneß. “If you have followed the media of the past few weeks, you always felt that FC Bayern plays a very weak season. We rarely have won the championship so confidently.”
Hoeneß did not want to speak on Florian Wirtz, who had traveled to England this week.
“At some point we will provide you with facts and not with further speculation,” said Hoeneß. Bayer Leverkusen’s star could change this summer. FC Bayern is one of the most promising candidates. But Liverpool FC, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also traded as candidates.
