Ukrainian whistles final between Germany and England

The first important decision before the EM final has been made. Uefa announced the appointment of referees on Friday.

The Ukrainian referee Kateryna Monzul will referee the European Championship final between England and Germany on Sunday (6 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) at Wembley Stadium. This was announced by the European football union Uefa on Friday, sending a political signal: Monzul fled to Italy a few weeks after the outbreak of war in her home country.

The 41-year-old was the first woman to officiate games in the top men’s league in Ukraine. Her final assistant, Maryna Striletska, is also from Ukraine.

Another assistant is Paulina Baranowska from Poland, the fourth official is Stéphanie Frappart from France. It is already the fourth women’s European Championship for Monzul, so far she has led three games at the tournament in England.
