Volodymyr Androshchuk died in the Battle of Bah’mut. Ukrainians’ understanding of the International Olympic Committee is non-existent.
While the International Olympic Committee IOC is denying Russia the opportunity to return to the sports fields, in Ukraine I am mourning the end of a promising athlete’s life.
2019 under-20 Ukrainian championship winner in the decathlon Volodymyr Androshchuk died last week in a battle near Bah’mut at the age of 22.
Androshchuk was laid to rest on Wednesday. While the funeral crowd mourned yet another victim of the war, not a drop of understanding came to the IOC.
– It is clear that they (Russians) should not be involved in sports. Probably at the 2024 Olympics, a friend of Androshchuk told Reuters.
Ukraine has threatened to boycott the 2024 Summer Games in Paris if Russian athletes are allowed to participate. Latvia has also flashed the boycott card.
