Ukraine: At least 10 killed in Russian attack on Severodonetsk

At least ten civilians have been killed by Russian shelling of the eastern Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk, according to local authorities. Earlier, the city authorities had already reported that fires had broken out in residential areas due to heavy shelling.

Severodonetsk is located in an area that the Russian invasion forces and rebel pro-Russian Ukrainians want to capture from the Ukrainian armed forces. The city has been the administrative center of the Luhansk region since the regional capital Luhansk came under separatist control in 2014.

In the neighboring Donetsk region, nine civilians were killed in Russian attacks, authorities there said. Six other civilians were injured.
